Traveling Along Highway 49

Today Mike and I, along with Linda and Larry, traveled along Highway 49 from Sierraville (outside Truckee) to Nevada City. Of course, we were geocaching too. It was a beautiful day and the scenery was fantastic. Along the way we saw a bear run across the road in front of us, a beautiful waterfall, an old mine, a quaint little town, and a raging river. And to top it off, by the end of the day, we had found 20 caches.

We never cease to be amazed by the experiences we have enjoyed while geocaching. Today was no exception.

4-Wheeling in Nevada!

Yesterday we were in the Carson City/Gardnerville/Minden area geocaching and 4-wheeling. The roads were a little worse for wear after our second record breaking winter. Several places were a little more rough and scarey than we bargained for. After both Cynthia and Linda got out of the jeeps, both men navigated a particularly rough area of the road. The pictures don't do it justice. Mike went first with his new anti-sway bars and then he helped Larry. Several times various wheels on Larry's jeep were hanging in mid air. It was a very stressful day and we were glad to reach pavement.

Lake Tahoe on a Rainy Day!

We spent today touring Lake Tahoe. It was supposed to be a pretty, sunny, warm day. Surprise. We awoke to rain this morning here in Reno and very dark clouds over the mountains between us and Tahoe. What to do. You guessed it - neither rain, wind, cold, fog or a little snow would stop us on our planned rounds. This was the first time we cached in the rain. We managed to find all but one. We had to finally give up on that one when we were soaked to the skin from the POURING rain. It was hard, but we headed back to the car. We didn't reach sunshine until we arrived back in Reno for our last cache of the day. We're glad to report that Lake Tahoe is even beautiful in the rain!!

Jeeping Over Peavine!

We spent Friday geocaching on Peavine Mountain north of Reno with Linda and Larry. We traveled over, around, and sometimes it seemed through the mountain and saw some beautiful places. We saw Aspen groves, meadows, beautiful birds, and even some left over snow. The weather was cold and windy in some places and beautiful and sunny in others. Take a look at the map to see just how extensive our trip was. We had a great time!!

Biking Along the Cascade Canal

Mike and I spent Mother's Day biking along the Cascade Canal with Linda and Larry. They were checking on the 8 caches they had planted and we were finding them. This was the first time I had ridden a bicycle since the girls were little. We bounced over rocks, carried our bikes over catwalks, avoided hikers, and balanced precariously between steep drops on one side and the canal on the other. Boy did the end of the trail (9 miles later) look great!! It was a fun way to spend Mother's Day.

Geocaching Isn't always on the Ground!!

Linda, Larry, Mike and I went geocaching in Roseville on our way to Coloma. One cache we completed required climbing trees to get the answers. Here, Mike is climbing the tree and Larry is giving him a boost up. It was a tough task, but after shimmying up the limbs that reached the ground, Mike finally was able to reach the cache location. We, of course forgot to bring our camera, so we used Linda's phone camera. We hope you can see Mike up there in the tree.

2000 It Is!!

On Sunday Mike and I spent the day geocaching in Marysville/Yuba City. We were on a mission to reach 2000 before our 2 year anniversary. 22 caches later and 2 weeks shy of 2 years, we were at 1999 and on our way to Roseville to find Linda and Larry's new cache "81 mg". We felt that since they had started us on this obsession, it was only appropriate that our big find be one of their caches. We reached Roseville, climbed the hill in our jeep, and made the find. We didn't have anyone with us to take a picture - so no picture this time - and that was probably a good thing. After a long hot day, we looked pretty bedragled. We then headed for Linda and Larry's house to spend the night. They were in Vancouver visiting family, so we celebrated alone. Did you think that was the end of the great quest - well, next morning we were up and out early on our way to 3000. We spent another day in Marysville/Yuba city and found 26 more caches before heading home. No, we're not obsessed!! Stay tuned for the next chapter in this enthralling story.

CattleDrive

Mike and I were out geocaching around Pyramid Lake yesterday when we suddenly were helping the cowboy drive his cattle. They were walking down the middle of the road and taking their time. There were mothers and babies everywhere and they were very concerned about us. They had to keep stopping and checking us out. It took us about half an hour to complete our task of driving them to the other side of the road.

Dead Camel Caravan

We spent yesterday with a group of GBES geocachers climbing the Dead Camel Mountains near Fallon. GeoJeep was actually clean when we started - but who doesn't love a mud puddle! There were 8 vehicles and approximately 20 people. Even though it was windy and cold and one of caches was so high up a mountain the winds were 100 mph, we had a blast. We ended the day with 12 caches and a lot of mud to clean off the jeep.

Rainbow over North Natomas

We traveled to Roseville today to geocache in the sun and warmth. Well....we traveled through snow over Donner Summit and hit rain about Colfax. The first cache we did Mike had to dodge the raindrops. By the time we reached Roseville, it was pouring. We met Linda and Larry for lunch and then visited waiting for the rain to stop. Finally, about 4:30 we headed out. By the time we reached the first cache we had traveled through sunshine, rain and hail. We found the cache and were treated to this beautiful rainbow. We went on to find a total of 7 caches to reach 1800 finds. I guess the day wasn't a complete loss.
