Dead Camel Caravan

We spent yesterday with a group of GBES geocachers climbing the Dead Camel Mountains near Fallon. GeoJeep was actually clean when we started - but who doesn't love a mud puddle! There were 8 vehicles and approximately 20 people. Even though it was windy and cold and one of caches was so high up a mountain the winds were 100 mph, we had a blast. We ended the day with 12 caches and a lot of mud to clean off the jeep.

Rainbow over North Natomas

We traveled to Roseville today to geocache in the sun and warmth. Well....we traveled through snow over Donner Summit and hit rain about Colfax. The first cache we did Mike had to dodge the raindrops. By the time we reached Roseville, it was pouring. We met Linda and Larry for lunch and then visited waiting for the rain to stop. Finally, about 4:30 we headed out. By the time we reached the first cache we had traveled through sunshine, rain and hail. We found the cache and were treated to this beautiful rainbow. We went on to find a total of 7 caches to reach 1800 finds. I guess the day wasn't a complete loss.

Geocaching Wins!!

Today's choice was the Superbowl or Geocaching. Geocaching won. It was much too beautiful a day to sit inside, so we spent the day geocaching in Reno, Sparks, around Pyramid Lake, and over to Doyle before heading home. We climbed several mountains, walked through parks, and just enjoyed the drive. At the end of the day we had found 11 caches. What a fantastic way to spend Superbowl Sunday!! We're already making our plans for next year.

Caching in Las Vegas

We flew to Las Vegas for 3 days of Geocaching with Linda and Larry. What a town. We got to experience the Las Vegas strip as we walked for miles from one end to the other and we got to visit the Hoover Dam and see one of the truly awesome sights in our country. In between we were all over the rest of the town.

The DeLorme Nevada Challenge

Three trips and 55 quads later we're done!!

FNTF (First NEVADAN to Find). We have lived in Nevada since 1981 and have never really seen much more than the Reno area. After teaming up with L3-Geo, the tour of Nevada that we took to complete the Nevada DeLorme Challenge was amazing. The scenery, geology and wildlife are more beautiful and varied than we ever imagined.

We began our journey in the northern part of the state. We went east on Highway 50 taking roads both north and south. We traveled north from Ely to Wendover and then west on Interstate 80 again taking side roads to visit all the northern quads. We’ve always wanted to visit Midas so when we discovered that Quad 22 had no caches, we were excited to plant “Midas Castle AKA Open Says Me” (GCQC9V). When that trip ended we had completed 30 quads. The second part of our quest took us to quads 18, 19, and 27. We traveled to the Oregon border and back through the Black Rock Desert where we visited Bruno’s Country Club in Gerlach. The final phase of our journey took us three very long days in Southern Nevada. We were up before the sun and traveled till after it set. We started at Tonopah, headed east to Ely and then headed south to Las Vegas. After driving all the way to the Nevada/California border we headed back up Highway 95 to complete the circle and the Challenge. Boy do we have stories to tell!!
