We were up early today with high hopes for a great day. Our first find of the day took us to Washoe Lake State Park. We made a short hike to the cache and found it easily. Next we headed into Carson City and again found a cache quickly. Little did we know that would be our last easy find!
Next we stopped at a cache we assumed was a light skirt. We tried to lift it and it wasn’t budging. We looked all around the area with no luck and finally gave up and headed on to the next. That one was also a DNF and so was the next due to muggles in the area. By now we were getting discouraged so we decided to go for a group of caches that were on a mountain south of Carson City. We were pretty confident we could find those caches since no muggles would be anywhere near them. As we drove up to the entrance to the area, we noticed John of jahoadi and john arriving just before us. He had had an equally discouraging morning with several DNFs (including the light skirt) so was looking forward to this group as well. Guess what, it was not to be. The gates to this area and the area across the street were locked. It seems the gates are locked on November 1st through May 1st. Arrghhh! We were four days too late. We wandered the nearby streets hoping to find another entrance, but came up empty.
After reviewing our remaining caches, we came up with a plan for another area. Off we went to “Prison Hill”. The roads to the first cache were rocky and steep and along the way we saw a herd of eight deer. We had to work our way around one particularly steep area before we arrived at the cache. Mike and John climbed the rock and FINALLY we found another cache. Pumped up again we headed on to the next. We came to a crossroads and Mike took the high road and John took the low road. While on the high road we saw a very hungry looking coyote. Luckily he was headed away from the deer. We met up with John at the cache and found it easily. OK, now we’re cooking!
John had several caches on his list that were just “over there”. We teamed up again and it seemed no matter which way we went we hit a dead end. We finally had to admit defeat again and retrace our route to the main road and approach from another angle. Again, no luck - on we went - again no luck. So here it was almost 1pm and we had 4 caches and were feeling totally frustrated. We headed back to town and this time managed to pick up two of the caches we hadn’t found in the morning. Now where do we go?
Off to Dayton we went. We were able to find several, but we also had to skip several. After finding the last cache with John before heading our separate ways home, we all agreed that this was the most disorganized and frustrating day of geocaching we could ever remember. Any by now it seemed like the longest day we had ever spent!
Mike and I were finally headed home and just couldn’t resist stopping to try the light skirt cache one last time. We drove up to the cache, Mike jumped out with his sledge hammer (one of his favorite extraction tools) ready to do battle, but first he tried to lift it and up came the skirt with no resistance. We’re just sure someone glued it shut this morning and then unglued it before we came back. Go figure! At least we know that John had the same problem so it’s just not that we’re old and weak.
Boy we were glad to arrive home and grab our glass of wine. At least we could find that!!

And I gave up a day of geocaching just to solve puzzle caches! Sorry it was such a "bad" day! I had a little more success so I am ready for your visit this next weekend. See ya then!
You sure summed up the day. I did have fun with you guys out on the trails even thought it wasn't fruitfull. 10 finds and 5 DNFs were my stats for the day. I got home in time to watch Sunday night football!
